JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, Lombok, received several complaints from racers MotoGP after undergoing pre-season test session. One of which is asphalt peeled off.
Almost all riders feel the asphalt peeling off. When driving behind other riders, it was felt that there were stones that bounced off and hit the motorbike, helmet, neck, and arms of the rider.
This condition occurs at several bends Mandalika Circuit. In fact, some of the riders argue that these conditions are not ready for racing.
Andhi Satria, President Director of Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA), says, this is a recently completed track. Only used once for WorldSBK, whose power is different from MotoGP.
“So, definitely not only in Indonesia, everywhere, the new track has advantages and disadvantages. Maybe with a 4.1 km long track, there is one part that doesn’t match that much power,” said Andhi, during a virtual press conference. , Wednesday (16/2/2022).
This condition makes many people speculate. In fact, there are also outside media that say that the asphalt used is not in accordance with the specifications set by the END.
“If that happens in the majority, it might be a construction error. However, this is relative, actually it is very small. However, we will carry out repairs that are not half-hearted. We will expand the repair area,” said Novel.
Novel added, for the gravel on the side of the track, it was already using the best gravel. It has also been proven that with riders who fall, gravel can protect them well.
It has been agreed by the FIM, Dorna Sports, ITDC, MGPA, and other related parties to re-pave some of the track. Circuit re-coating will be carried out from the section before bend 17 to after bend 5.
