Mexico Prosecutor’s Office exonerates former Defense Secretary – Telemundo El Paso (48)

MEXICO – The Office of the Attorney General of the Republic determined not to take criminal action against the former Secretary of National Defense, Salvador Cienfuegos, despite the fact that he was accused by the United States Anti-Drug Agency (DEA) of five crimes against health and having links with groups criminals in Mexico.

In addition, the Prosecutor’s Office determined that Cienfuegos, a former secretary in the government of Enrique Peña Nieto, never had a relationship with members of the Beltrán Leyva cartel, as indicated by the US justice.

“Nor was there any evidence that he had used any equipment or electronic means, or that he had issued any order to favor the criminal group named in this case.

“From the analysis of his patrimonial situation and the fulfillment of his fiscal obligations, no data or symptoms of obtaining illegal income or increase of his patrimony out of the normal appeared, according to his perceptions in the public service”, said the FGR it’s a statement.

For the above reasons, the Office of the Special Prosecutor for Organized Crime Investigation (Seido) determined the non-exercise of criminal action, in favor of the military.

According to the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Cienfuegos allegedly protected and aided the Mexican H-2 cartel in exchange for bribes.

Cienfuegos was arrested in October 2020 in Los Angeles, California, on drug trafficking charges that, according to the DEA, were documented since 2013 in the so-called “Operation Padrino”, of which the Mexican government was not informed.

After five weeks, the United States Department of Justice asked the judge who heard the case in that country, to dismiss the charges against him and the corresponding judge accepted.

Cienfuegos returned to Mexico and since his arrival he was free, and this Thursday he was completely exonerated by the Mexican justice.
