‘Mexico at maximum risk level for covid-19’: Alomía

MEXICO CITY

With the application of the red light throughout the territory, Mexico remains at a “maximum risk level of contagion of covid-19”, Registering 120 thousand 102 confirmed cases accumulated, as a result of the emergence of 2 thousand 999 new infections, reported José Luis Alomía Zegarra, general director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health.

There are currently 18,416 active cases and 46,398 suspect cases.

The deaths rose to 14 thousand 53, because, according to the last report, 354 deaths were recorded due to covid-19.

It should be noted that 73 percent of coronavirus deaths are associated with comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, smoking, and chronic kidney failure.

The average age of deaths is 61 years, where 66 percent are men.

The three entities that register the highest number of deaths are Mexico City, the State of Mexico and Baja California.

José Luis Alomía Zegarra, insisted that the population must be aware that healthy distance measures must continue to be applied and stay at home, to avoid further contagion because the traffic light throughout the country remains red.

What this completely red map means for all states is that all states, and therefore nationally, are at maximum risk level.

And the maximum risk level means that we still have and must continue with many of the suspended activities and only some activities can start with certain limitations, ”he explained.

EPIDEMIC CURVE GOES DOWN: LÓPEZ-GATELL

In contrast, Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, pointed out that the forceful sign indicating that the epidemic curve is in decline, is that “the number of daily cases is less today, than was the previous day ”.

He added that to this is added the decrease in the numbers of hospitalized.

This is a very strong, directly observable signal that we combine with the other indicators on hospitalization, hospitalization in intensive care. The direct, evident, numerical, quantitative, reproducible signal is the reduction in the daily number of events, those of greatest interest are the number of registered and confirmed cases and the number of hospitalizations, both those hospitalized for severe respiratory infection, as those that are confirmed with covid ”, he explained.

HOSPITAL OCCUPATION

Mexico City registers 78 percent of hospital occupancy in general beds, compared to 46 percent of national average occupancy.

The State of Mexico has 77 percent occupation and Chiapas 62 percent.

According to the RED IRAG (Serious Acute Respiratory Infection), the average occupancy of ventilated beds is 38 percent.

In contrast, the State of Mexico reports 68 percent, Baja California 66 percent, and Mexico City records 62 percent occupancy.
