Miami, Feb 24 (EFE News) .- The Mexican soccer player Jonathan Suárez, a player for Orlando City SC, was arrested along with his brother, Rafael Suárez, after being denounced for an alleged sexual assault in central Florida, the local authorities without giving details of the fact.
The player and his brother were arrested Tuesday night and are being held in an Osceola jail on charges of sexual assault, the sheriff’s office in this county located south of the city of Orlando reported today.
According to the authorities, the arrest was due to the complaint of a woman, according to which both sexually assaulted her last Sunday afternoon and after investigating the evidence provided by the victim.
Detectives from the police unit interviewed the woman on Monday afternoon and 24 hours later proceeded to arrest the player and his brother, who have not been bailed.
Major League Soccer (MLS) announced this Wednesday the suspension of the 24-year-old player, who arrived at the Orlando club this month as a loan from Querétaro FC, while the Police investigations and those that does the same American professional league.
“Major League Soccer will remain in close communication with Orlando City SC, local law enforcement and the MLS Players Association during this investigation,” the professional league added in a statement.
Also, the club said in a written statement that it has taken these accusations “very seriously” and is gathering information, but will not comment on the fact until the investigation is complete.
