Metropolitan Opera New York streams New Year’s Gala from Augsburg

Because of Corona there is hardly any culture at the moment. Because, like everywhere else, the opera houses are closed, the New York Metropolitan Opera launched a series of concerts in the spring that can be broadcast live on the Internet for a fee. It’s called: “Met Stars Live in Concert”. For this, the opera house was looking for spectacular small stages, in the USA and also in Europe. The organizers found what they were looking for in Augsburg, among other places, in the Parktheater. It is considered to be the only preserved multifunctional theater from the early days in Europe.

Met Stars live in concert with operas and arias

The sopranos Angel Blue and Pretty Yende and the tenors Javier Camarena and Matthew Polenzani will perform live in the building, which was built at the end of the 19th century and has cast-iron railings and bracing in gold. In Augsburg, they will sing duets and arias from various operas for audiences all over the world.

Opera singer Angel Blue: “The Parktheater is something special”

For days, rehearsals have been taking place in the Augsburg Parktheater with artists, stage and television technicians. The singers usually perform in large opera houses. Opera singer Angel Blue is still looking forward to her appearance in the Parktheater. “I love the Parktheater, it’s nice here,” says the artist during rehearsals. Here, in this smaller venue, you can feel every nuance of the opera sound.

Live and on demand

The sound of the New York Opera from the Parktheater Augsburg can be seen and heard live on New Year’s Eve from 10 p.m. on the Metropolitan Opera website. Opera fans can still access the performance online 14 days later.
