Meteorologists recorded two record lightning

WMO registered record-breaking lightning

One of them stretched for 768 kilometers, and the second lasted more than 17 seconds. Both lightnings were recorded in 2020.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has registered a record for the duration and extent of lightning. About this on Tuesday, February 1, reported press office of the organization.

As follows from the message, the longest lightning was recorded on April 29, 2020 over the southern coast of the United States, it stretched for 768 kilometers. This is almost 60 km higher than the previous record – lightning in Brazil on October 31, 2018.

The longest lightning itself was recorded near the border of Uruguay and Argentina on June 18, 2020, the duration was 17.102 seconds. Prior to this, the record was considered to be 16.73 seconds, which was recorded in Argentina during a thunderstorm on March 4, 2019.

Earlier it was reported that in China lightning struck 12 times in the same place.

And in Bangladesh from lightning strike killed 16 guests weddings. The incident occurred when the guests were sailing on a boat on the river.
