In September of last year, BTS (hereinafter referred to as BTS) unveiled their new song Dynamite in Epic Games’ online game’Fort Knight’ rather than a music video or showcase.
BTS appeared in’Party Royale’, a space where gamers in Fortnite enjoy watching movies or concerts with other players with their avatars, and participating gamers dance to BTS’ dynamite, and I bought a BTS choreography emoticon.
The space in Fortnite where BTS performed virtual performances is called’Metaverse’.
Metaverse is a compound word of’Universe’ which means the real world and’Meta’ which means’processing and abstraction’ and means a three-dimensional virtual world. Users don’t just enjoy games or virtual reality using avatars, they engage in social and cultural activities just like in real life.
The term metaverse first appeared in Neil Stevenson’s 1992 novel Snow Crash.
The metaverse is rapidly spreading along with the corona pandemic. Nintendo’s’Gather, Animal Forest’, which was released in March last year, is a representative metaverse. In a virtual world where real time passes, gamers fish, grow plants, and decorate their homes.
In Korea, Naver Jet’s ZEPETO is a representative metaverse platform. Users play games with their avatars, take pictures, and enjoy performing celebrity dances. It has already secured 200 million cumulative users in Asia, North America, and Europe.
Metaverse is the next version of the Internet (web), and it is expected that people will go to work, play games, or shop with Metaverse in the future. The progress of science and technology is dazzling and it is dizzy.
