Lionel Messi set the Argentina national team record for most World Cup appearances.
In the final match of the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar against Poland, Messi became the 22nd in the Argentina national team jersey at the Mundials. Diego Maradona stopped on goal in the 21st game.
Only three players have played more matches at the world championships: Italian Paolo Maldini -23, as well as Germans Miroslav Klose – 24 and Lothar Matthäus – 25.
