Of Mercedes AMG GT Black Series has broken the lap record of the Nordschleife, according to insiders. The 730 horsepower production car reportedly took six minutes and 43 seconds to complete a lap. Mercedes-Benz denies the record attempt.

It was no secret that Mercedes-Benz was present on the circuit in the German Eiffel. Mercedes-AMG GT3 driver Maro Engel tweeted that the Black Series is being tested at the Nurbürgring, but denies any official record attempt. According to Youtuber en Nordschleife-watcher Misha Charoudin the record has indeed been broken.

Rumors that the Black Series would attempt to break the Nürburgring’s lap record for production cars have been circulating for a while. According to Charoudin, the record run took place at the beginning of this week. The time of 6.43 is not the official time but a manually clocked time of the Frenchman. This would have broken the record time of 6.44.97 set in July 2018 for the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.

The Black Series at the Hockenheim circuit was also already faster than the McLaren 720S and Ferrari Pista, so this potential record at the Nürburgring would not necessarily come as a big surprise if confirmed by Mercedes-Benz. The racing car record is 5.19.54 and was set last year by a Le Mans Porsche 919 Evo driven by Porsche driver Timo Bernhard.
