According to Motorsport.it It became clear on images from last race weekend in Great Britain that Mercedes is currently using a special rear wing. This wing would move with the car in the bends and thus provide more downforce. That benefits the corner speed of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas at a few kilometers per hour.
However, the Italians have already seen that both Ferrari and Red Bull have also built similar variations of the wing. For example, the rear wing of Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon could drop a whopping 30mm. This is also made to provide the drivers with a higher cornering speed.
What makes the rear wing of Mercedes so special is that the rear wing also seems to be able to move with the car. As a result, the wing optimizes the downforce of the Mercedes car optimally. It is assumed that this gives the Germans about two kilometers per hour profit in the corners.
However, the FIA has also been made aware of the various advanced rear wings among the top teams and will therefore be checking even more strictly for the legality of the wings from Barcelona. It is expected that the FIA will come this week with a technical directive that will provide even more clarity with regard to the regulations on the rear wing.
