Mercedes-Amg Project One: what a sound the Hamilton approved hybrid car! Photo and video

On the Immendingen circuit the tests of the hybrid hypercar with over 1,000 hp obtained by the powertrain derived from the experience in Formula 1. 275 specimens approved for the road

Track tests continue on the car that most of all represents the “bridge” between Mercedes’ commitment to Formula 1 and the production of (dream) cars also intended for road circulation. A story enclosed in a name, Mercedes-Amg Project One, the 1,000 hp hybrid hypercar capable of reaching 350 km / h and accelerating from a standstill to 200 km / h in less than 6 seconds. A racing car destined for a very limited production, only 275 copies, sold for 2 million and 275 thousand euros and expected from 2021.

project one to the track test

The Project One prototype was unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Almost three years later, in August 2020, track tests continue at a fast pace, entering a new essential phase, the one that allows the car to be whipped. making full use of its power (over 735 kW, equal to approximately 1,000 Hp). So much so that the hybrid hypercar recently appeared in proving ground owned by Amg, in Immendingen, Germany, driven by the official drivers of the German brand. They have been entrusted with the development of the two dry seats whose “soul”, from the hybrid powertrain to the driving position, is closely linked to the experience in the races of the Silver Arrows (today Black Arrows for the anti-racism livery).

active aerodynamics

In particular, under the magnifying glass at Immendingen with some pre-production cars, in addition to the delivery of the engine power (and the operation of the same in very high-speed sessions) the complex aerodynamic system is also finished. The Mercedes-Amg Project One, in fact, is a truly extreme car. Just look at the maxi active rear wing and the refined design of the profiles, in particular the fins that surmount the front wheel arches, in addition to the air intakes as a whole, starting from theairscoop in the center of the roof.

approved by hamilton

“It’s like a bullet, the speed it reaches is incredible – Hamilton said of the star’s hypercar – The sound is more or less similar to that of racing cars”. Under the “dress” the Project One hides a thrilling engine, the 1.6-liter 748 Hp V6 turbo petrol unit combined with four electric motors for a total of 322 Hp: in detail two on the front wheels, one integrated into the turbocharger of the exhaust gas, one on the internal combustion engine. A system derived from the one mounted on the silver single-seaters in 2016. The video of the recent tests in Germany allow you to fully appreciate the round and “bad” sound of the electrified powertrain. The hypercar, however, will also be able to travel in total silence using only the electric motors.

soon in the ring

The drawbacks (to be taken into account when developing a totally new car with extreme characteristics) that had slowed down the development of Project One in recent months seem to have been largely overcome. The high-speed tests of Immendingen, in fact, on the one hand testify to the advanced state of the development process, on the other they anticipate – as stated by the German manufacturer itself – the new commitments expected in the near future. Where is it? On the asphalt of the Nürburgring… probably waiting for the launch of the car in 2021.
