Mercedes-AMG Project One: the hypercar with a Formula 1 engine

The development of the Mercedes-AMG Project One, the limited edition hypercar with a Formula 1 engine that in the plans of the Casa della Stella will be ready for delivery to collectors who have already booked it, for 2021. The wait is about to end: the Daimler Group has announced that several pre-production models are subject to speed tests, both in static form on the test benches and in dynamic form at the Mercedes technology center in Immendingen.

The project managers of the hypercar of the German company, for the first time, have authorized the test concerning the fully electrified and highly complex hybrid power unit of the Mercedes-AMG Project One: an engine that boasts a maximum power of over 735 kW which corresponds to 1.000 cavalli.

The development work has been going on for several years and nothing has been left to chance, to achieve perfection in operation in all driving conditions, even at extreme speeds. In this phase of the project the engineers are focusing mainly onactive aerodynamics, fine-tuning some refinements that serve to further improve the car’s ease of driving.

The goal of Mercedes which has recently unveiled the luxury interior of the new S-Class, is to reach a new dimension in the driving dynamics and performance of a road vehicle. A complex job that passes from the adaptation of a motor unit of Formula 1 for a car that will be homologated for road circulation.

Mercedes’ challenge is all there: the Project OneAs well as providing impressive driving dynamics, it will also have to guarantee perfect daily performance and great mobility in electric mode. Quality reserved only for the 275 wealthy collectors who have already booked the hypercar by paying the staggering sum of 2,275 million euros. For deliveries they will have to wait until 2021, the year in which the Mercedes-AMG Project One, made in limited edition, will finally be delivered.

The development team, in parallel with the ongoing dynamic tests on the vehicle, is also working at the Affalterbach headquarters, testing the car on the test rigs and in the internal simulator. The next step in the program is to test the hypercar on the circuit of the Nurburgring, where the Porsche Panamera just posted a record-breaking performance on its debut.
