MEPRD asks KNAB to evaluate the actions of the Mayor of Ikšķile in connection with the investment of financial resources in the municipal infrastructure facility

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (MEPRD) asks the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) to evaluate the actions of Indulis Trapins (LZP), Chairman of Ikšķile County Council, concluding an agreement on behalf of the municipality on investing in municipal infrastructure, LETA informed MEPRD.

The Ministry has received information that renovation works of the municipal road have been carried out in Ikšķile municipality. In a letter, the deputies of Ikšķile County Council informed the Ministry that real estate belonging to the family of the Chairman of Ikšķile County Council, including the real estate where his residence is located and where his spouse organizes economic activities, is located on the mentioned municipal roads.

In his letter, the Chairman of Ikšķile County Council Trapiņš explained to the Ministry that the repair of municipal roads is directly related to the extraction of minerals and their transportation to the concrete plant owned by “Tigranas” and the use of certain municipal road sections was identified only in correspondence with JSC “Latvijas Valsts ceļi”. .

At the same time, the chairman of Ikšķile district council informed the ministry that on June 18, 2020, an agreement was concluded with SIA “Īpašumi EG” that the company would reconstruct the mentioned roads with its own forces and resources. In its turn, the Ikšķile municipality in accordance with the agreement undertook to issue permits to SIA “Īpašumi EG” in the required amount so that the company’s machinery could use the relevant roads and bridge.

LETA has already reported that in connection with this case, the opposition of Ikšķile County Council tried to suspend Trapiņš from office, but failed. Kaspars Upaciers (“Residents”), a member of Ikšķile County Council, informed that the reason for the resignation was the illegal actions of the head of the municipality – a paved road along the family property, where uncoordinated construction and illegal quarries are taking place,

Trapiņš commented on what was happening earlier, that recently the publicly visible purposeful denigration of the municipal leadership and his defamation is obviously being implemented in connection with the forthcoming municipal elections.
