Mental health: the Victo Youth Council launches an ambitious project

The Victoriaville Youth Council is launching a vast awareness campaign on mental health among young people entitled “Éclaircis ta tête” in order to inform and equip the population on the various aspects surrounding the psychological health of 12-24 year olds.

“More than ever, mental health is an issue and it is up to each of us to increase our level of vigilance with those around us. I salute the initiative of the Victoriaville Youth Council, which once again demonstrates its willingness to act for the well-being of young people in Victoriaville, ”said the mayor of Victoriaville, André Bellavance.

“Mental health is a primary issue for young people, especially in these more volatile times. Together, let’s create a new normal in this abnormality. When we talk about our health, it is important to recognize the signs, but also to know how to use the tools. The work will be great, but the positive repercussions will also be great for the young people and the whole community. We want young people to clear their minds, to be better equipped to face mental health issues at the end of this campaign, ”said Anaïs Berthiaume, spokesperson for the CJV and member of the thematic committee on Mental Health.

The awareness campaign is ambitious. Spread over nearly a year, it should enable young people and those around them to better understand the different angles of mental health, in addition to offering them varied information on the services offered in the municipality and the region.

The idea of this campaign naturally appeared to the elected representatives of the Youth Council after they had observed the consequences of confinement, the pandemic and stress on their fellow citizens. A new thematic committee dedicated to this issue has been formed and is made up of municipal youth councilors Gabriel Gagné, Jérémie Bérubé and Anaïs Berthiaume. The Victoriaville Youth Council will work with various community players, as well as with the support of the City of Victoriaville. Young people will be involved in each step of the process, and organizations, institutions and schools will be called upon to share their expertise and vision with young people.
