WILKES-BARRE, PA – King’s College men’s and women’s swimming teams split their weekend competition, with the men securing a victory over Lycoming College before falling to Penn State Altoona, while the women’s team was defeated by both Lycoming and Penn State Altoona.
The Monarchs men’s team demonstrated strength in individual events and relays.andrew Scheckner led the charge,winning the 100 backstroke in 55.26 seconds and anchoring the 200 freestyle relay to a second-place time of 1:34.78 alongside Chase Kubis, Dutko, and Kyle McDevitt. N earned a win in the 200 butterfly,finishing in 2:04.66. Kubis also had a strong showing, placing third in the 50 free (23.46) and second in the 100 free (52.79). Stefan Lakoseljac and noah Dunbar contributed to the team’s score with top-five finishes in sprint and mid-distance events. The men closed the meet with a 400 freestyle relay time of 3:38.55, swum by Kubis, Lakoseljac, Dutko, and Scheckner.
On the women’s side, Stefany Malaga Nunez delivered consistent performances in the 200 IM (2:58.67) and 100 backstroke (1:17.34). Abigayle Cryan and Athena Gerlek showed continued betterment in multiple freestyle events, and Malaga Nunez added a 1:09.98 in the 100 free.
King’s will next compete at home on Saturday at the Scandlon Natatorium against St. Joseph’s Long Island.
