CLEVELAND, Ohio (September 6, 2025) – Mount St. mary’s men’s rugby team launched their season with a dominant 29-14 victory over davenport today, signaling a strong start after last year’s impressive 41-12 win against air Force in their opener. The Mountaineers‘ commanding performance establishes them as a team to watch in the upcoming season.

Mount St. Mary’s began the match aggressively, with Evan Corbett converting an early penalty kick within the first three minutes, giving the Mountaineers a 3-0 lead. Hayden McKay then powered through for the first try in the 19th minute,quickly followed by a triumphant conversion from corbett. Xavier Locke and Finn O’Leary each added a try before McKay secured his second of the day, propelling the Mount to a 29-0 advantage at halftime.
Despite Davenport’s efforts to rally in the second half,adding 14 points to the board,the Mountaineers’ substantial first-half lead proved insurmountable. Locke and O’Leary each registered a try for the Mount in the second period, while Corbett finished the day with three successful conversions and the initial penalty kick.
The Mountaineers will continue their season on September 20th, traveling to Fredericksburg, Virginia, for a 12:00 p.m. matchup against Mary Washington.
