CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University men’s golf team is preparing to compete in their final fall tournament, heading to the Pat Hicks Invitational hosted by UNLV, October 23-24 at the Bear’s Best Las vegas.
The Thunderbirds are coming off a 13th-place finish at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational,where they recorded a season-low nine-under-par 275 in the second round,finishing with a three-round total of 859 (295-275-289). This tournament marks the last opportunity for SUU to refine their game before the winter break and build momentum heading into the spring season.
Currently leading the team in stroke average is Uy Doan with a 71.3 average through nine rounds, including six rounds of even par or better. Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang closely follows with a 72.3 season average. Charlie Gillespie showcased a strong performance at the Dolenc Invitational, carding a second-round 66 (-5), the team’s lowest score of the week and a new collegiate career low. Braylon Bingham has also demonstrated consistent play, consistently shooting in the low 70s.
