Member of the National Guard collapses and dies after performing a physical fitness test – Telemundo Phoenix / Tucson

PHOENIX- A 23-year-old National Guard member died after collapsing during a physical fitness test at Tempe Town Lake earlier this week.

According to the Arizona National Guard, Army Lt. Robert Dwayne Bryant Jr. collapsed Tuesday morning, while conducting a test as part of preparation for the Basic Officer Leader Course.

A doctor was on site when it happened. Bryant was taken to Tempe St. Luke Hospital, where he died the following day. The cause of death is under investigation.

In addition to being a member of the Guard assigned to the 850th Military Police Battalion in the Papago Park Military Reserve, Bryant was also a Phoenix police officer.

Bryant joined the Phoenix Police Department in 2017. He received his commission last year through the Reserve Officer Training Course at Arizona State University. He also received the Minuteman scholarship through the National Guard.
