The 9-year-old Elyana Joris has made her street one of the nicest in Mechelen in recent weeks. For the hundredth time she gave a balcony concert on Saturday evening with her trombone.

“Elyana practiced a new piece of music that she had never played before. At her age, this is quite a feat, ”says Geert Joris, her proud dad.

And the little girl was inspired, because during the lockdown other neighbors from the Gebroeders Romboutsstraat also started making music or pulling a joke. Neighbor René and connoisseur of the Mechelen dialect taught local residents something about the local language.

Several birthdays were celebrated with music or a suitable word, and the death of a neighbor was commemorated with intimate singing. “We have been doing a lot of activities with the Hazel Brothers for a decade and we have noticed that we have all grown closer to each other in recent weeks,” says Geert. On Saturday, the main characters were honored.
