Mega Mindy has found her Mega Toby. After musical actress Lotte Stevens (28) was announced a few months ago as the successor to Free Souffriau, it is now known that model and actor Tuur Roels (34) is taking over the torch from Louis Talpe. “This is now at the top of my resume: being a superhero and catching crooks.”

“I’m glad it’s finally known, because I’ve been silent for two months,” says a relieved Tuur Roels. Finally, he can tell the friends who comforted him a few months ago because his audition as Mega Toby “didn’t work out” that he’s got the part.

His name may not immediately mean something to you, but Roels does have experience with the media world. He worked as a model and already played small roles in series such as ‘Studio Tarara’. But he also works as a knowledge valoriser at the VUB. “A mouth full, huh? It is a difficult word for someone who supports research groups in obtaining funding. I do many different things, yes. My friends don’t even try to explain to others what I do. But now it’s a bit more defined, of course. That is now at the top of my resume: being a superhero and catching crooks.”
Sister convinced him
It was Roels’ sister who convinced him to take his chance at the auditions. “I have a little niece. My sister said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if she grew up with Mega Toby as an uncle? There was something in that. (laughs). In addition, acting has always fascinated me, but I never dared to go for it. Now I get that opportunity. During the audition with Lotte I already felt that it clicked, and I thought: I think this could become something.”
Stevens made her official debut as Mega Mindy in Plopsaland De Panne last summer and will soon be featured in Studio 100’s Sinterklaas show. For Roels, the baptism of fire will take place in April next year. Then he stars in the new Mega Mindy show. “But I don’t know exactly what it will look like yet. What will the story be, will the other actors play along again… I let it all come to me. I just know that I’m really looking forward to it.”
