Hello vaccinator,
A team of researchers from the Murdoch Institute in Melbourne has started testing BCG, a vaccine that has been used for decades against tuberculosis. The test will involve 4,000 healthcare workers in Australian hospitals to test its ability to reduce symptoms of Covid-19.
“Although originally developed for tuberculosis and still administered to over 130 million babies each year, BCG also boosts the body’s basic immune capabilities, helping it respond to germs with more strength “, said the researchers in a statement.
The Coalition for Innovations in Preparation for Epidemics (CEPI) is also working on the development of a vaccine against the virus with clinical trials which could take place in a few months.
We will share the results of these tests as soon as they are known.
