Medical entrants do not have an exam date yet. Will they lose the year?

“The National University of Tucumán (UNT) presented a protocol to the Emergency Operating Committee (COE) to take face-to-face evaluations. And, as a Faculty, we participate in the drafting of that protocol, ”Mateo Martínez, dean of the Faculty of Medicine, told the newspaper La Gaceta. In addition, he stressed that the authorities of the Faculty have been working on a virtual examination protocol since last week.

The announcement of both protocols is given in response to medical students who still do not know if they will be able to take some subjects or if this will be a totally wasted year.

In the note, Martinez argues that one of the main problems presented by the Faculty of Medicine, when thinking about the possibility of evaluating in person, is the fact that practically the entire teaching staff is also medical personnel in hospitals, what positions them as one of the main sources of contagion and a risk for those around them.

In the successive announcements of the faculty page, it does not record information about the income. There is no estimate date and modality and the truth is that Medicine is the only faculty that did not receive entrants in this school period. “It is because the exam is taken in May and we were already in quarantine,” said a parent of a student to QD, who prefers not to be identified.

“We don’t know if the boys are going to lose this year too, unless they give some information. I think the Dean is more concerned with the pandemic than with the students, ”he added.

Last year, the Superior Council eliminated the quota for admission to the faculty in the 2020 cycle and ordered that in 2021 admission be unrestricted. Around 3,000 students are registered for the entrance exam as a result of the accumulation generated by the quota and if this year there is no income, next year they will find a faculty without the capacity to receive the new wave of students.
