Mediatek to receive Intel’s 5G market withdrawal and associated technology transfer- Free Finance and Economics

[Financial Channel/Comprehensive Report]Intel is moving towards the IDM 2.0 strategy formulated by CEO Pat Gelsinger, abandoning non-core businesses, recently quietly exiting the wireless wired area network (WWAN) business, and selling the remaining business to MediaTek and China Enterprise Fibocom.

《More Than Moore》reportfor the 5G modem business, Intel sold its 4G/5G modem business for smartphones and tablets to Apple as early as 2019 for $1 billion, but still retained key 4G/5G patents, Provides 4G/5G modem solutions for laptops.

However, recently Intel has quietly begun to withdraw from the wireless wide area network (WWAN) business, and has transferred related technologies to MediaTek and Fibocom. It is currently transferring driver codes and license agreements to ensure user experience. This part of the operation will not affect Intel’s other connectivity businesses, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet and Thunderbolt.

It is reported that Intel plans to completely withdraw from the 4G/5G market before July this year, and will retain a team to assist its partner MediaTek in solving software, hardware and customer issues. The transfer is expected to be completed in May, which will have no impact on the financial report. Intel’s existing OEM partners can continue to work with MediaTek to provide updates and upgrades to existing products.
