Media: Kosovo’s head Hashim Thachi may announce his resignation

Head of unrecognized Kosovo Hashim Thachi may announce his resignation, according to the national television channel RTS. According to them, today, June 29, at 20:00 (21:00 Moscow time) Mr. Tachi will address. The subject of the message has not been officially disclosed.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Hague Crime Court in Kosovo charged Kosovo President Hashim Thaci with crimes against humanity and war crimes during the 1998-1999 Serbian-Albanian armed conflict.

Kosovo proclaimed its independence from Serbia unilaterally in February 2008. Opinions of countries regarding the recognition of Kosovo were divided. The USA, European countries, Australia, New Zealand and a number of other countries recognized the independence of the republic. Russia does not recognize Kosovo’s independence. The same point of view is shared by Serbia, China, Israel, Iran, Spain, Greece and other countries.

Initially, the appeal of the head of Kosovo was scheduled for Sunday, June 28, but it was postponed for one day. If Hashim Thaci resigns, this will be the third time that Kosovo is left without senior officials on war crimes charges. Earlier, Prime Minister Ramush Haradinay twice resigned due to a lawsuit in the Hague Tribunal and an investigation by the prosecutor’s office of the Special Court, the channel notes.

After the accusation against Hashim Thachi was made public, EU foreign service spokesman Peter Stano said the EU did not comment on the actions of the Hague Court, but strongly supported its work. The Kremlin said they are closely monitoring this situation.
