Medellín Stepfather Arrested in 2-Year-Old Murder Case – $100M Reward

Stepfather of 2-year-Old Amaia Montoya Cardona Arrested in Medellín

Medellín, Colombia – darwin Stiven Arango Aguirre, the man identified as responsible for the brutal murder of 2-year-old Amaia Montoya Cardona, has been apprehended. the tragic events unfolded on July 10th on a farm in the Vereda Corazón, within the Altavista corregimiento.

Mayor federico Gutiérrez of Medellín confirmed the arrest via social media, stating that Arango Aguirre surrendered to the Prosecutor’s Office with his defender. He was subsequently notified of the arrest warrant and will face a judge to answer for his alleged role in the “unfortunate but condemnable homicide.”

The District Administration had previously offered a reward of up to 100 million pesos for data leading to Arango Aguirre’s whereabouts. He had disappeared following Amaia’s death, after bringing her to the San javier intermediate unit and claiming she had fallen, causing her injuries.

Medical examinations, though, revealed bruises consistent with blows, prompting authorities to investigate the incident as violence against the child.Further examinations indicated signs of sexual abuse, which were later confirmed.

Amaia’s mother was arrested on July 22nd and charged with homicide and abusive carnal access with a minor under 14 years old, both aggravated offenses. The charges were not accepted by the mother.

mayor Gutiérrez expressed his outrage at the crime, emphasizing the collective commitment to protecting children. “Thanks to the Attorney General’s Office and the Childhood and Adolescence Police for having assumed this case promptly and demonstrating that we are all united in the defense and protection of our children. For them everything!” he stated following the arrest.

Arango Aguirre is expected to be presented before a judge of guarantees in the coming hours to face the same charges as Amaia’s mother.
