Measures taken in Marrakech to allow the healthcare system to stand up to the pandemic

The Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, presented Wednesday evening, in the ocher city, the main measures that will be taken to face the latest developments in the epidemiological situation at the level of the prefecture of Marrakech.
During a meeting with the national and local press, he highlighted the plan that will be implemented in the very near future to ensure the care of confirmed cases, the number of which has evolved. notable at the level of the prefecture of Marrakech.
In this context, the minister, who was accompanied by the wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, governor of the prefecture of Marrakech, Karim Kassi-Lahlou, underlined that on the basis of the recommendations of the central commission dispatched on the spot, he was decided to rationalize the hospital structures in Marrakech and to restructure and organize the care process for people infected with Covid-19.
Thus, he continued, the Ibn Zohr hospital (Mamounia), which will benefit from extension work and will be fully equipped with an oxygen pipeline, will be dedicated only to suspected cases and screening for Covid-19 while Al Antaki hospital will be upgraded to handle cases admitted to intensive care (first degree).
The Ibn Tofail hospital will also be extended while a marquee will be set up as a field hospital where Covid-19 cases will be taken care of, he explained.
A closed building belonging to this hospital will also be upgraded and dedicated to the care of Covid-19 cases, he added.
The Arrazi hospital under the Mohammed VI University Hospital will remain, for its part, dedicated to critical cases, he said.
In addition, Khalid Ait Taleb has indicated that the Benguerir field hospital will be extended, whose litter capacity will increase from 360 beds currently to 650 beds, which will ease the pressure on hospitals. from Marrakech.
In addition to these measures, the minister stressed that local health centers will be upgraded in order to take care of and support the most exposed cases. And to note that the private sector fully supports the efforts to fight against the pandemic, believing that the hospital structures of the private sector must be upgraded to support the public sector and be prepared for all scenarios in the future.
On this occasion, the Minister paid tribute to the nursing staff and to the officials and security forces for their constant mobilization despite the fatigue linked to “this long pandemic” and the risks linked to contamination.
Khalid Ait Taleb assured that “the ocher city, which has been a model of pandemic management, is endowed with great potentialities allowing it to contain and stop the spread of Covid-19”.
For his part, Karim Kassi-Lahlou assured that all issues relating to hospital structures for the care of Covid-19 cases will be controlled and resolved in order to overcome this step, indicating that several measures will be taken, including the strengthening of hospital structures. in human resources, the extension of the Ibn Zohr hospital and the equipment of all its rooms with oxygen pipelines.
The Ibn Zohr hospital will also have an additional generator, he added.
