Measures blow in the face of entrepreneurs: ‘Without perspective, it will soon end for many companies’ | Coronavirus

VideoOf additional measures that the cabinet is taking to reduce the increasing corona infections hit entrepreneurs hard. “Especially in sectors that are repeatedly hit,” say VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland. “The focus must be on what is possible, otherwise it will end quickly for many companies.”

They want the cabinet to do everything in its power to get the testing capacity in order better. In the coming weeks, roadmaps will also have to be worked out, so that measures need to be less crude and enforcement of rules of conduct can be better organized. The business organizations call it ‘good’ that extra support will be provided for businesses affected by the partial lockdown.

“The cabinet is now opting for major interventions for the next four weeks. We must use every minute of this to ensure that there is a new perspective for the Dutch and entrepreneurs, ” says Ingrid Thijssen, chairman of VNO-NCW. “Healthcare must not be overburdened, so we have to get the virus under it. This can be done by all of us adhering to the rules of conduct, but apparently we cannot. ”

Part of solution

The government is currently asking very large sacrifices from entrepreneurs and their people, says Jacco Vonhof, chairman of MKB-Nederland. “Then the cabinet must also come up with the same speed with additional support measures and the time-out and stop regulations that we have been talking about for some time.”

The business community argues that entrepreneurs can be part of the solution. “We have to focus on that. The focus must be on what is possible, otherwise it will end quickly for many companies. ”According to Vonhof, the coming weeks must be used to refine the arsenal of measures. At the same time, the testing capacity must be increased and better enforcement of the rules of conduct is necessary. “Entrepreneurs, such as in the hospitality industry, can also play a role in this.”

Smarter measures

The partial lockdown affects a large number of sectors, such as hospitality, events, culture, travel, retail, transport and supply companies. The business organizations are discussing support measures with the cabinet.

The CNV trade union also calls on the cabinet to take additional support measures for severely affected sectors. The catering and events sector in particular are hit even harder than expected, according to the union.

Hop, mask on

According to the CNV, the support package for entrepreneurs concluded in September is now obsolete. “Tens of thousands of extra people are at risk of losing their jobs. The situation is hopeless and poignant for an increasing number of Dutch people, ”said CNV chairman Piet Fortuin. He wants the cabinet to quickly release extra money to be able to continue paying the salaries of catering and event employees for longer.

The union chairman calls on the whole of the Netherlands to adhere to the corona measures. “It is now all hands on deck. The more strictly we now adhere to these measures, the faster we will find the line upwards again. So hop: put on a mouth mask, keep a distance of 1.5 meters and work from home as much as possible. ”
