It’s been years now that Favij – in the century Lorenzo Ostuni – is the most followed youtuber in Italy; soon, however, the young creator and artist could end up overtaken in the ranking of our most followed local users on the video sharing platform. The first place among the channels in Italian with more followers on YouTube it could in fact pass soon to Me against You, the duo of Palermo influencers in their early twenties who, since their formation, have won over millions of subscribers to their page.
On the one hand, in fact, Favij continues to boast numbers that are unrivaled: the people who follow him steadily with a subscription on his YouTube channel are 6.08 million, while Me against You are still at 5.72 million subscribers. On the other hand, however, the data reveal that the difference between the two channels is destined to getting thinner and thinner until zeroing in a not too long period of time.
The success of Me against You
If Favij’s popularity is a phenomenon that dates back to years ago, the parable of Me against You is more recent and different from many points of view. In fact, behind the canal there is a duo made up of Sofia Scalìa and Luigi Calagna, two Palermo boys aged 22 and 26 respectively who propose content aimed at children. From games and jokes to each other to challenges and experiments – all the contents produced and proposed by the duo on their YouTube channel focus on an audience of children and teenagers. The formula and the attention employed in pursuing it have been rewarded by a success that Me against You have been able to exploit to overcome the boundaries of the online sharing platform.
The tone and content of their videos earned them projects like a Disney Channel program and a movie in theaters. These elements, together with the production of merchandising with their face, has increased their notoriety and pushed more and more users to follow them on YouTube and on their social networks. Just this virtuous circle brought Me against You to the current situation on YouTube: on the one hand, the duo is still in second position among the most followed Italian creators (the profiles of the bassist Davie504 and of Marziapie because in English); on the other hand, their videos have had more views on average and for at least two years the number of monthly subscribers regularly surpasses that of rival Favij. In short, overtaking is a matter of time.
