McGregor Presidential Bid: Calls for Councillor Support Amid Legal Issues

Conor McGregor Launches Presidential Campaign, Appeals to ⁢Local ⁤Councillors for Nomination

Dublin, Ireland – Former UFC champion Conor McGregor has officially signaled his intent to run for the Irish presidency, posting a video on social media urging the‍ public to contact their ​local councillors adn request their ‌support for his candidacy.

To​ appear on the presidential ballot, McGregor must secure ‍either nominations from four local⁢ authorities or the backing of 20 members of the Oireachtas (the Irish ​Parliament).

The two-and-a-half-minute video, filmed outside Government Buildings in Dublin, features ​McGregor speaking directly to the ‌camera. He referenced the Irish proclamation​ of Independence‍ during the address and concluded with a‍ gesture of blessing.

Accompanying the ​video on social media, McGregor explicitly called on ⁤citizens to reach out to their county councillors, requesting they nominate him as a candidate in the upcoming Presidential election. The nomination window officially‍ opens tomorrow.

All ​nominations⁢ must be received by‍ midday on September 24th.

This presidential⁤ bid follows a November 2023 civil trial where ⁤a‍ jury found Conor McGregor liable for the rape of Nikita​ Hand in a⁤ Dublin hotel room in December 2018, awarding her almost €250,000 in ‍damages. McGregor afterward lost an appeal against this ruling in July 2024.
