McDonald’s Pantai Kuta Closed, Restaurant Business in Bali Sluggish?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – McDonald’s outlets on Kuta Beach, Bali, closed today, Tuesday (29/9/2020) at 21.00 WITA. Then, is the closure a picture of the restaurant business in Bali as a whole in the midst of a pandemic Covid-19?

“Restaurants are not the same in all areas and it depends if there are guests visiting. The restaurant is only opened in Badung. It is very clear that everything that is open must be verified,” said Chairman of the Indonesian Regional Leadership Council Hotel Bali Association General Manager I Nyoman Astama to CNBC Indonesia, Tuesday (29/9/2020).

According to him, the indicator of whether a restaurant is crowded or not depends on the presence of guests. There is a specific character in the restaurant in the hotel in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. The guests who visited the restaurant so far came from Indonesian domestic tourists and local Balinese tourists. Astama said it was difficult to expect from abroad because it was difficult because foreign tourists did not come to the country at this time.

“We have actually made preparations so that foreign tourists re-enter. After being promoted to a foreign country, Ukraine picked up the ball directly. But in fact last September 11 was not opened,” Astama said.

Initially, there were three stages to open community activities in Bali. The first stage, namely on July 29, 2020, will open the economic activities of local Balinese residents. Furthermore, the second stage, namely on July 31, 2020, tourist destinations are opened to domestic tourists. As for foreign tourists, it was originally opened on September 11, 2020, but it was finally postponed.

As is known, recently viral on social media closing McDonald’s outlets on Kuta Beach, Bali, Tuesday (29/9/2020). The closure is thought to be the result of a decrease in the number of tourists to Bali, especially to the Kuta area.

CNBC Indonesia tried to confirm this information to the Associate Director of Communication McDonald’s Indonesia Sutji Lantyka. However, McDonald’s Indonesia has not provided an explanation.

“I have no comment, I cannot comment. Sorry,” said Sutji, Monday (9/28/2020).
