McDonald’s celebrates its birthday – and launches a unique product

The end is near: McDonald’s develops candles that smell like burgers

Some love it, literally, feverishly looking forward to the Monopoly or “Los Wochos” days, others only turn their nose contemptuously if they only think about the food, think about the trans fats or smell the fries fat.

We’re talking about McDonald’s, Mecces, the golden M. The fast food giant from the USA will soon be celebrating its 65th anniversary. There is hardly anyone who has not already stood at the counter at three in the morning and ordered a hamburger. Some branches even open until late in the morning.

And if you do stand in front of a closed door, the company has now developed something very special (and questionable): candles. They bring the smell of McDonald’s home.

Different McDonald’s scents: we smell it

But the candles don’t smell of fries fat, no, but of burgers. Better said after the Quarter Pounder, or as we call it: the Hamburg Royal Cheese.

The burger has been in the US for almost 50 years – reason enough for the company to celebrate it, as the US broadcaster CNN reports. In addition to candles, McDonald’s also brings out rolls, ketchup, cucumber, cheese, onions and beef as well as mittens, a quarter-pounder calendar and a chain.

Well, if that’s not a clever marketing trick. Quickly light a candle and you get hungry. By the way, you can buy the candles on the fansite, but for the time being only in the USA. It is not yet known whether the candles will also be available on the German market.

correction: Previously, this article said that the “Quarter Pounder” in Germany was called “Hamburger Royal TS”. However, the burger corresponds to the German “Hamburger Royal cheese”. Dear Burger fans, we would like to apologize for this mistake.

Lidl and Edeka do this with bread that is no longer sold

In almost every discounter or supermarket, the scent of freshly baked bread rolls through the air at one point of the store: Most branches of Lidl, Edeka, Aldi and other well-known chains offer baked goods in the machine.

Going to the discounter for baked goods is worthwhile in terms of price: While a baker’s pretzel can cost 80 cents, Lidl only charges 29 cents. In the supermarket, they usually only cost a little more.
