Although it has been in Indonesia for a long time, Mazda does not yet have assembly facilities in the country. Currently Mazda models sold in Indonesia are still imported directly from Japan. And there are also Mazda models imported from neighboring Malaysia.

To note, Mazda had changed agencies, starting from the Indomobil group and then being taken over by Mazda Motor Corporation (MMC), until finally it was held by PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI). If the negotiations are successful, Mazda will build its first factory in Indonesia.

Mazda is not a new player in Indonesia. The government is also trying to make this Japanese manufacturer also have production facilities in the country.

In March 2021, the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang, traveled to Japan to meet with the principals of automotive manufacturers, including Mazda, to invest in Indonesia.

Indonesia is determined to become an automotive center. The target, as many as 1 million units of cars made in Indonesia can be exported to various countries in the world. The export target of 1 million Indonesian-made vehicles is expected to be achieved by 2025.

Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Motor Vehicles (Gaikindo) Yohannes Nangoi said that in order to widen new markets it is necessary to add export destination countries. Especially Mazda which has a market potential of 120 thousand per year.

“We see that many brands have started manufacturing in Indonesia. The Minister (Agus Gumiwang) that the first export in Australia has been opened, Australia alone has a market of 1 million a year, and there are no car factories there,” said Nangoi some time ago. then.

“For example, Mazda, in Australia there are 120 thousand a year, 10 thousand per month. We want the Mazda to be exported from Indonesia,” he explained.

In line with this, Ricky Thio does not want to precede the principal’s decision.

“I have to make sure from the results of a feasibility study from a specialist that will be sent to Indonesia, but this is the right track direction, in that direction,” he explained.
