Mazda CX-80 Expands Lineup with New Mild-Hybrid Option

Top-Spec Homura Trim Now Offers Six-Cylinder Power

Mazda New Zealand is broadening the appeal of its CX-80 SUV with the introduction of a 3.3-litre mild-hybrid engine to the range-topping Homura trim. This provides buyers with an alternative to the previously sole plug-in hybrid powertrain offered on this model.

New Engine Choice for Seven-Seat SUV

The seven-seat CX-80 debuted in late 2024, initially featuring both a 2.5-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid and a 3.3-litre six-cylinder mild hybrid across several variants. However, the luxurious Homura trim was exclusively available with the plug-in hybrid system until now.

The CX-80 Homura now offers a choice of powertrains, including a 3.3-litre mild hybrid.

The Homura trim builds upon the features of the CX-80 SP, adding refinements such as a Bose premium audio system, a panoramic glass sunroof, electrically adjustable steering column, and heated rear seats alongside heated front seats. It also incorporates an enhanced Driver Personalisation System with Driving Position Assist for optimal comfort.

Performance and Efficiency

Mazda’s 3.3-litre inline six-cylinder turbo petrol hybrid delivers 209kW of power and 450Nm of torque. The mild hybrid system assists in fuel efficiency, achieving a combined consumption of 8.4 litres per 100km. According to a recent report by the New Zealand Transport Agency, SUVs now account for over 60% of new vehicle registrations, highlighting the growing demand for larger vehicles like the CX-80. “The CX-80 has hit the ground running since launch last year, incredibly well-received by our customers, and is proving to be a valued choice for families and those wanting a large SUV,”

David Hodge, Mazda New Zealand Managing Director

Hodge further stated, “With the introduction of the Homura 3.3 Hybrid, this provides another choice, offering either the exceptional capabilities of a plug-in hybrid or the sound, smoothness and performance only found in an inline six.”

Pricing and Availability

The new CX-80 Homura 3.3 Hybrid will be available from “mid-2025” and is priced at $82,990. This positions it between the SP 2.5 plug-in hybrid ($80,990) and the Homura 2.5 plug-in hybrid ($89,490). The CX-80 SP 3.3-litre mild hybrid remains the entry point to the range at $74,990.
