Mayors of four major cities again call for relaxation outside | NOW

The four major cities are once again making “an urgent appeal” to the cabinet to reopen the terraces and other outdoor spaces. The mayors of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht announced this on Sunday.

It is the second time that the four mayors have issued a joint appeal that goes against the national corona policy. On 3 april Mayors Ahmed Aboutaleb (Rotterdam), Sharon Dijksma (Utrecht) and Jan van Zanen (The Hague) supported the request of Mayor Femke Halsema (Amsterdam) to reopen the terraces and other outdoor spaces in a responsible manner.

The mayors explain their repeated appeal on Sunday: “In densely populated areas, residents desperately need the outdoor spaces. They also appropriate them when the weather improves. This makes enforcement unfeasible and the local authority unintentionally confronts its own inhabitants. . “

The four cities say that a “controlled opening of the outer spaces” is precisely necessary to prevent contamination, because it prevents irregular gatherings. It is also necessary for “the credibility of the corona policy”.

On Sunday, the cabinet announced that planned relaxation of the corona measures, including the opening of terraces, will be postponed for at least a week to April 28.
