Maybank case smudges customer trust, how is it recovered?

Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaThe case of breach of customer funds from PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk (BNII) belonging to athletes e-sports Winda Lunardi and her mother, Floleta, worth Rp. 22 billion, which were reported in early November, have become a hotly discussed issue.

It is considered that this problem must be resolved immediately so that it does not become a bad precedent for the financial services industry.

But in the end it will be revealed, the brand will experience a very big test, “said Hermawan, in the IMA Chapter Webinar Series: Consumer Protection in the Financial Sector in the Digital Age, Tuesday (17/11/2020).

On the same occasion, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) also emphasized the importance of consumer protection in the financial sector. This is crucial in the midst of the digitalization trend.

On the other hand, law enforcement efforts and assistance from regulators must support these efforts to the full.

“If it is a portion of the bank, then the bank will not run away from responsibility, regardless of value, the bank must replace it. But the key is to see that there are sides of the bank, customers, stakeholders. [pemangku kepentingan], law enforcement officers, “he said.

Previously, Maybank Indonesia spokesman Tommy Hersyaputera said that the company is currently exploring several procedural options related to the process of replacing affected customer funds, one of which is through mediation efforts supported by the Consumer Protection Department, OJK.
