Maxima warns of a fake app

Retailer “Maxima Latvija” warns about a malicious copy of the company’s new application, which is not related to “Maxima Latvija”, which appeared in mobile application stores, LETA informed the company.

The company allowed the fake app to collect user data with an identical visual design to the original. The name of the copy of the application is “Maxima Latvija” and its developer is “VD studio”.

The original application, which allows stores to pay for purchases by phone, is called “Maxima” and its developer is “Maxima Latvija”.

“We are disappointed with the creation of such a fake app and call on the people to be really attentive. At the moment, we have contacted the representatives of the stores about copyright infringements and illegal use of the trademark in order to stop its distribution, ”said Liene Dupate-Ugule, Communications Manager of Maxima Latvija.

LETA has already reported that “Maxima Latvija” has developed a mobile application that can be used to make payments for purchases in “Maxima” stores. Mobile application development costs are included in Maxima Latvija’s investments for digitization this year, which total approximately 1.5 million euros.

Last year, Maxima Latvija had a turnover of 836.727 million euros, which is 7.7% more than a year earlier, but the company’s profit increased by 25.5% to 27.496 million euros.

The company “Maxima Latvija” was registered in November 2000, and its share capital is 4.91 million euros. The sole owner of Maxima Latvija is the company Lincoln Land Erste registered in the Netherlands, but the real beneficiary is Nerijs Numavičs. The company is part of the holding company “Maxima Grupe”.
