Not just sales and earnings records. In recent days Tesla has to deal with problems involving two of the most successful models: Model X and Model Y. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (the authority that oversees the safety of national roads) a few thousand Tesla-branded vehicles would not meet adequate safety standards.
Thus, to avoid further problems, the electric car manufacturer was forced to carry out a recall of nearly 10 thousand vehicles. A procedure that will make it possible to check the conditions of the models concerned and thus to replace the defective parts and components. According to information provided by the Californian manufacturer, they are affected by the recall 9,136 examples of the Model X produced between 17 September 2015 and 31 July 2016 e 401 examples of the Model Y 2020.
The problem encountered by NHTSA on the Model X, one of the electric cars with longer range, concerns the interior lights ceiling which, having not been properly fixed during assembly, could suddenly detach. According to Tesla, the gap should not even concern all the 9,136 cars recalled: from a first estimate, in fact, only 10% could have the defective part which needs to be replaced. All in all a minor problem, which does not directly endanger the safety of those who occupy the vehicle. Of course, if the ceiling light were to come off while traveling, the driver of the vehicle could also get distracted.
