Mauro Júnior misses old buddy at PSV: ‘We had a band from day one’

Mauro Júnior fights under the new PSV coach Roger Schmidt for his chance in the first selection. He does that without his buddy Gastón Pereiro, who left for Cagliari last season.

“In football, players go for their own chances, that’s the way it is,” says Mauro in conversation with it Eindhoven Daily. “I miss him and we still talk a lot. We always had a bond, from the first day that I got to the A-selection.”

Mauro is happy with his choice to play on a rental basis at Heracles Almelo last season. “I felt comfortable in Almelo from the beginning,” he says. Nevertheless, the Brazilian was looking forward to his return to Eindhoven, where he wants to impress Schmidt. “I can stand in several places and the choice is up to the coach. This is my type of game, I can excel at this.”

“It is good that I and a number of other young players have been elsewhere for a while,” continues Mauro. “We now have much more Eredivisie experience and that is also necessary to be successful at PSV. I try my best to extract an opportunity, as I always did before.”
