Mason (29) finishes season as coach ‘Spurs’, Vorm back as goalkeeper coach | NOW

Ryan Mason may finish the season at Tottenham Hotspur as an interim trainer. The only 29-year-old Englishman, who was forced to end his career in 2018, is the temporary replacement for José Mourinho, who was fired on Monday. Michel Vorm will become goalkeeper coach on an interim basis.

Mason started his playing career with Tottenham in 2008 and ended up at Hull City through various clubs in 2016. In January 2017, he was seriously injured in the head after a nasty collision with Chelsea defender Gary Cahill.

The England single international suffered a skull fracture and medics advised him to end his career immediately, which he did a year after the incident. Mason became head of youth at Tottenham in the summer of 2019 and will now be responsible for replacing Mourinho.

The experienced Portuguese had to leave on Monday after a series of disappointing results from the ‘Spurs’. Tottenham was eliminated in the eighth finals of the Europa League and won only one of the last five league matches, which means that the club may not play in Europe next season.

Mason will be assisted by Chris Powell, who will be assistant coach at ADO Den Haag, Ledley King and Nigel Gibbs in the 2019/2020 season. It is striking that Vorm will act as goalkeeper coach on an interim basis. The 37-year-old Dutchman put an end to his career at the end of last year, which he spent the last six years at Tottenham Hotspur. Since then he has focused on his barbershop in Utrecht.

Mason immediately awaits an important week as interim coach of Tottenham. The Londoners will play a home game against Southampton on Wednesday evening and the League Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday.
