Masinton Clarifies Hasto’s Speech About Reluctant to Coalition to Democrat-PKS

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

PDIP politician Masinton Pasaribu mention the words of the Secretary General of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto who refuses to form a coalition with the Democratic Party and PKS in the 2024 election is a personal statement.

“What the Secretary General said personally,” he told reporters at the parliament complex, Friday (24/6).

According to Masinton, Hasto’s statement was an aspiration from PDIP cadres at the grassroots or management under the Central Executive Board (DPP).

“What was conveyed by the secretary general was just a phenomenon below. In political cooperation, everything is possible, anywhere, it’s possible,” he said.

He said that PDIP is currently exploring cooperation or coalitions with all parties, including the Democrats.

However, said Masinton, his party still has ideological principles that cannot be debated. PDIP, he said, would close the door to a coalition with parties that use sectarian issues and primordialism.

According to him, the coalition should be built by bringing rational programs to the community. Not to build sentiment and sharpen divisions in society.

“That’s the most important thing in the context of our nationality. As Mbak Puan said, that election is not a means of fighting, but a competition,” he said.

Previously, PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said it was difficult for PDIP to form a partnership or coalition with the Democratic Party and PKS in the 2024 election.

He even explicitly stated his reluctance to form a coalition with PKS. He assessed that the two parties had different characteristics of supporters and political principles from the PDI-P.

“Yes, not with PKS,” said Hasto.

“Personally, as Secretary General, it is not easy to work with the Democratic party because various political dynamics show this,” he said again at the opening of the National Working Meeting, Thursday (23/6).
