Martien Meiland wins Loden Leeuw for most annoying celebrity in an advertisement | NOW

Martien Meiland has Monday evening of the television program Radar de Loden Leeuw in the category most annoying known Dutchman in a commercial. He received the prize for his role in the advertisement of the VriendenLoterij Bingo.

The 59-year-old Meiland received the prize from presenter Antoinette Hertsenberg and said she was happy with the prize. “I am very proud of the prize. It will be placed next to my Televizier-Ring. (…) I thought it was a very good campaign from the VriendenLoterij.”

The television personality received more than 45 percent of the votes. A total of 103,000 people voted. Besides Meiland, Thomas Acda and Sergio Romero IJssel (Lidl), Mark Rietman (ABN AMRO), Paul Haenen (Pricewise) and Andy van der Meijde (TOTO) were also nominated for the prize.

Previous winners were Ali B, René Froger and Johan Derksen. Last year went Marijke Helwegen wins the prize.

The Loden Leeuw for most irritating advertising went to candy manufacturer Haribo for the second year in a row.

The prizes for the most annoying advertisement and most annoying celebrity in a commercial have been awarded every year since 2002 by the AVROTROS program. The prize is the counterpart of the Gouden Loeki, the annual prize for best advertising.
