Marseille: soon a brand new pond in the rose garden of Parc Borély

We expected it for last fall, but health crisis and confinement oblige, it is finally a little before spring that the rose garden of Borély Park will be equipped with a brand new basin.

Two areas are still under construction and the basin, currently being created, will be commissioned at the beginning of March.“, explains the City.”We relied on what it looked like when it was created, with the pergolas, to give it back the image of the traditional rose garden“, confided to us last year the former deputy mayor in charge of parks and gardens Monique Cordier. The municipal rose garden was created in 1923 on 5,000 m² with more than 1,200 varieties.

For the past year, some 2,000 plants of different species have furnished the rose garden, the restoration of which cost a trifle of € 320,000. Until 2018, the management of this space was entrusted to an external company. By resuming its maintenance and operation directly, the City proceeded to the almost complete renewal of the site. The old plants were uprooted, soil was added, and between October 2018 and April 2019, automatic watering was renewed, rose beds created and a rose bush planting area created in partnership with the National Society. of horticulture France, all for 120,000 €. The sum was part of a major plan to renovate Borély Park, the amount of the 3rd tranche of which was set at € 550,000, 80% subsidized by the Department.
