Marketing researcher from Passau appointed to the AMA SERVSIG Board
Prof. Dr. Jan H. Schumann has been appointed as Co-Liaison Officer on the AMA SERVSIG Board. In this function, he will be primarily responsible for AMA SERVSIG’s activities at the major annual scientific conferences of the American Marketing Association. AMA SERVSIG is the special interest group for service research of the American Marketing Association, the world’s largest association of marketing scientists and practitioners.

For many years I have been able to be a member of this community, which has become an important part of my professional and private networks. My vocation is therefore a great opportunity for me to give something back through my contribution, ”said Jan H. Schumann. AMA SERVSIG is managed by a group of selected people who pursue the goal of maintaining and improving the relationships between service researchers around the world and between service research and practice. The Association acts as the publisher of leading marketing journals, such as the Journal of Marketing, and as the organizer of leading scientific conferences, such as the AMA Winter and Summer Academic Conference. During the summer conference 2019, Prof. Dr. Schumann already received the prestigious Emerging Service Scholar Award from AMA SERVSIG.
Jan H. Schumann holds the chair for Marketing and Innovation at the University of Passau. Before moving to the University of Passau in 2012, he was junior professor at the TUM School of Management at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where he also received his doctorate in 2009. Prof. Dr. Schumann studied psychology at the University of Potsdam and the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK and also gained practical experience as a management consultant. In addition to his affiliation with the University of Passau, he worked as an external research assistant for IMD International in Lausanne (2009-2011) and was a lecturer in the EMBA program at the University of St. Gallen (2010/2011).
Prof. Dr. Schumann is also a member of the Centouris Advisory Board. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Schumann gained international experience as a visiting scholar at the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Boston College and City University in Hong Kong. Since 2018 Prof. Dr. Schumann mentor of the Bavarian Elite Academy.
The main research areas of Prof. Dr. Schumann are online marketing, customer relationship management and service pricing. His research has been accepted for publication by leading international journals such as the Journal of Marketing, the International Journal of Research in Marketing, the Journal of Retailing, the Journal of Service Research and the Journal of Business Venturing. In addition, his research work has received numerous awards, including a finalist for the Best Article Award of the Journal of Service Research in 2010 and 2019, a finalist for the best IJRM paper in 2016 and the Rigor and Relevance Award 2017 of the Swiss Academy of Marketing Science. In 2012 he also received a grant from the Wharton Customer Analytics Initiative.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Schumann is a member of the Editorial Reviewer Board of leading international scientific journals (Journal of Service Research: since 2013; Journal of Business Research: since 2016; Thunderbird International Business Review: 2013 – 2019; Psychology & Marketing: since 2020) and is a member of the Association of University professor for business administration eV (VHB) and the American Marketing Association.
