Markelo residents find scammers after a chase

NOS News

In Markelo (Overijssel), two young scammers were arrested after villagers had spread their description in Whatsapp groups. Shortly before, the two had defrauded a 69-year-old man by posing as a bank employee at the door.

The scammers were at the victim’s door this afternoon and said they needed his bank card on behalf of a bank. The resident gave the pass, but immediately became suspicious and went after it in his car.

On a square in the village he was able to run over the two suspects. It ended in a scuffle, in which the 69-year-old man was assaulted.

The two crooks ran off, but bystanders came to the rescue and gave chase. They also enlisted the help of local Whatsapp groups. It quickly led to the fact that the police, also called in, were able to arrest the two in a meadow.

It turned out to be men aged 18 and 19 from Heerenveen and Drachten. They’re stuck.
