WASHINGTON – Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced friday she will resign from Congress, effective January 31, 2025. the decision follows months of public disagreements with former President Donald Trump and escalating threats against her safety.
Greene stated her resignation stemmed from disagreements with the president on issues including H-1B visas,AI regulation,long-term mortgages,foreign involvement in wars,and the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. She accused Trump of fueling threats against her after he withdrew his endorsement last week.
“A hotbed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world,” Greene posted on X, referring to the man she “supported and helped get elected.” She also described facing “never ending personal attacks, death threats, lawfare, ridiculous slander and lies.”
The rift between Greene and trump became public after she criticized his focus on foreign affairs, arguing he shoudl prioritize the rising cost of living in the U.S.trump responded by saying Greene had “lost her way.”
Greene has also been a vocal opponent of Israel’s war in Gaza, calling it “a genocide.” She expressed concern that she was being replaced by “Neocons, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Military Industrial War Complex, foreign leaders, and the elite donor class.”
Despite the conflict with Trump, he won Greene’s district in the 2024 presidential election with 68% of the vote, and she was re-elected with 64%. According to NBC News, voters in her district appeared largely unaffected by the dispute.
Political strategist Shermichael Singleton suggested Greene may be considering future political plans.
