Marine Post in Nduga Papua KKB Attacked, 1 Soldier Dies

Militia group Papua or often referred to as the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya, Saturday afternoon (26/3) attacked the Marine Corps Battalion 3rd Mupe Task Force Post.

Nduga Police Chief Kompol Komang Budhiarta confirmed the attack that occurred at the Mupe Task Force post in Lower Kwareh. As quoted from Betweenhe said the attack was carried out by KKB from two directions, all of whom carried firearms.

He explained that even the sound of a GLM grenade launcher which he said was being held by Egianus Kogoya was heard as far as the Nduga Police, which is about 1.2 KM from the Mupe Task Force Post.

His party is now on alert in Kenyam with its members.

It was displayed that the GLM carried by Egianus Kogoya together with the firearms of the KKB members were weapons confiscated from the TNI.

Before the attack took place, the people around Kenyam had heard information stating that KKB would carry out an attack but it was not known exactly when and where.

“Today until noon the security and security situation around Kenyam was conducive but suddenly at around 17.45 WIT, gunshots were heard and there were reports that the Marine post in Kwareh Bawah was attacked,” said Komang.

He added that currently all personnel including the victims have been evacuated to the Kotis post which is about 2.5 KM from the scene. Komang said the next victim would be evacuated to Timika on Sunday (27/3).
