Marieke Lucas Rijneveld shortlisted International Booker Prize

Dutch writer Marieke Lucas Rijneveld has been nominated for the International Booker Prize. The translation of her debut novel The evening is inconvenience is on the shortlist of the prestigious literature prize with five other books.

Rijneveld and her translator Michele Hutchison together have a chance of winning 50,000 pounds (57,000 euros). The book, which was published in the Netherlands in 2018, is about a Reformed family that is affected by the death of a child.

With The discomfort of evening, as the book is called in English, 28-year-old Rijneveld is one of the youngest writers ever to be nominated for the prize.
