Maria Vieira and strong police apparatus at the André Ventura demonstration

Protest summoned by Chega took off with six times fewer participants than expected, but the group was formed along the way. Maria Vieira marched alongside Ventura.

The demonstration of the Right called by the Chega party, in reaction to the anti-racist protests, took off this Saturday afternoon at Marquês de Pombal, Lisbon, towards Terreiro do Paço, with one sixth of the participants expected by the organization – 250 of the approximately 1000 to 1500 expected. But on the way, on Avenida da Liberdade, the number rose to over a thousand.

It should also be noted the strong police apparatus, both on the avenue and on the sides: 100 PSP agents were mobilized for the protest, confirmed a source from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command (Cometlis) to JN.

In the beginning, at 2.30 pm, the leader of Chega, André Ventura, signaled the fact that this demonstration was “the first Right in 40 years”. “Get used to it,” shot the deputy, who paraded with actress Maria Vieira, a supporter of the party.
