Margot Robbie will be the protagonist of a new installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean” that will follow the adventures of a female character with a totally different plot from the original movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter magazine, this Disney and Robbie project has nothing to do with the announced new version of “Pirates of the Caribbean” that Craig Mazin, the creator of the acclaimed miniseries Chernobyl, is working on.
Specifically, the film starring Robbie will not feature the character of Jack Sparrow, made famous by Johnny Depp, and will introduce new references in this film universe.
With a total of five films, “Pirates of the Caribbean” is one of the most lucrative franchises in cinema, which has grossed over $ 4 billion worldwide and has been credited with stars like Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush, Penélope Cruz or Javier Bardem.
The first film, “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” (2003) was inspired by a Disneyland attraction and recovered the adventure cinema of pirates for the 21st century audience from Sparrow, a bluff and singular captain with the unusual ability to get out alive from any situation, no matter how serious it was.
The next three installments, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” (2006), “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” (2007) and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” (2011) were a success in ticket office.
But the last released film, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” (2017), left some worrying signs as it was the lowest grossing in the series.
