Marechaussee shoots man in leg at Schiphol, two suspects arrested

Tonight, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee shot a man in the leg in the departure hall at Schiphol, after attacking officials with a knife. According to a spokesman, the man was swinging a “huge knife” and came closer and closer. He did not respond to repeated calls from the Marechaussee to lay down the weapon.

According to the spokesperson, passengers in the departure hall quickly left. Nobody was hurt.

The man was taken away by ambulance. A second suspect has also been arrested. The Marechaussee saw on camera images that he was in contact with the man with the knife before the incident. The motive of the two is not yet known, it is now being investigated.
